MiniMed Introduces Insulin Insertion Device
MiniMed, based in Sylmar, California announced on Wednesday that its Sof-serter device for subcutaneous injection of insulin was introduced at the annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association in Boston, Massachusetts, in late June. According to a MiniMed press release posted on Business Wire, the Food and Drug Administration approved marketing of the device in March 1997. MiniMed said that the Sof-serter is the first and only automated insertion device on the market to date. Terrance H. Gregg, president and COO of MiniMed, noted that "...[t]he Sof-serter is an ideal alternative for pump users who are uncomfortable with traditional manual insertions."
