Death of Prof Robert Turner , UKPDS
”It is of deep sorrow the British Diabetic Association
reports that Prof Robert Turner died in the USA during a lecture tour
on 1 August this year. Prof Robert Keen paid tribute to his determination
to answer several important questions regarding the key to the care
of people with type 2 diabetes.
Robert Turner has richly deserved international recognition
for his indefatigable leadership of the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes
Study UKPDS; some of us will know of the sometimes stormy seas he had
to navigate before he brought this landmark study so triumphantly into
harbour last year.
Most of us near him mourn the loss of Robert Turner,
this kind, ever-patient man, always a good friend, who so parently valued
those with whom he lived and worked.
The UKPDS results will benefit people with type 2
diabetes for years to come, and Ribert Turner´s great and fantastic
leadership was decisive in bringing this about. Our deepest sympathy
goes to his family, to Jenny his wife and children.
