REsearchers at the Karolinska Institute describe a curious proliferative effect of Leptin on pancreatic beta cells. A japanese group soon reproduced the results. The implications of these are yet unclear. Leptin might be one of the growth factors that may determine beta cel mass by affecting growth and development of these cells at different stages of life.
